R.J. Hunter selected by the Boston Celtics

“With the 28th pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, the Boston Celtics select R.J Hunter, out of Georgia State,” Commissioner Adam Silver announced in the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York Thursday night.

A night in history for Georgia State, Hunter being the highest draft pick in Georgia State history since Joe Brown went to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the ninth-round in 1989.

Hunter finished his career as a two-time AP All American Honorable Mention and two-time Sun Belt Player of The Year. He leaves Georgia State as the all-time leading scorer with 1,819 points.

The 6’6” guard was rated as the third best shooter in the entire NBA Draft. He also capped off his career with a  performance in the NCAA tournament defeating No. 3 seeded Baylor Bears 57-56. Hunter scored the last 12 of 13 points in the last two minutes.

Hunter shocked the world hitting a 30 foot three-pointer from the top of the key, leaving 2.7 seconds left on the clock.

After waiting for nearly two hours to be selected by a team, Hunter said the tension started to stir. “It got tense, but like always, they were there to support me,” Hunter said.

“As soon as I started getting nervous, everybody started talking to me and let me know it’s OK, but God works in the weirdest ways,” he said.

R.J is a fashion savvy guy on and off the court, so how will the new Celtic rock the historic green and white?

“I’m gonna swag the green, I like the green. I might get a little green whip [car] to go with it,” Hunter said.

Georgia State has been nominated for ‘Upset of The Year’ for their thrilling finish against Baylor for the 2015 ESPYS Award show.
