Panthers to travel to San Antonio for NCAA Regionals

Damon Stephenson is the next big "Aussie" in the game of golf with 11 top 25 finishes in his career.

The men’s golf team was selected to play in the San Antonio Region for the NCAA Regional Finals next week at the Briggs Ranch Golf Club.

The Sun Belt champion’s opponents were revealed during the selection show on Golf Channel’s “Morning Drive” as they revealed all six regions. The No. 46 Georgia State Panthers’ region includes in-state opponents such as Georgia and Georgia Southern out of the 13 total teams to battle in San Antonio, Texas.

“This is a great opportunity,” head coach Joe Inman said to Georgia State Athletics. “We will get to face some very good teams, many of which we have faced this year. If we continue to play the way we have over the last six weeks, I think we will give ourselves a great chance to advance.”

The NCAA Regionals are May 15-17, and the five team’s with the lowest scores in each region advance to the NCAA Championship played May 23-28, in Hutchinson, Kan.

The Panthers received an automatic bid into the NCAA Regionals after winning the Sun Belt tournament last month.

Senior Jonathan Grey hit a birdie on the final hole of the tournament to secure the conference title for the team.

The Panthers go into regionals winning a program record of three consecutive tournaments, four tournament wins this season.

The Signal will have continuing coverage of the team’s postseason run.
