Panthers trample the Tribe

After losing a heart breaker last Saturday on a last second 3-pointer, the Georgia State Panthers used a monster trey of their own at the first half buzzer to propel them to victory.

The Panthers trailed at the half, 33-28, shooting a ghastly 33%, but somehow kept themselves in the game. Guard Kevin Shaw, a sophomore, hit the aforementioned 3-pointer to give the Panthers momentum at the half.

Georgia State came out swinging in the second half, improving on both offense (scoring 46 points in the second half) and defense (allowing only 25 points).

Manny Atkins paced the Panthers with 21 points, shooting 6-11 from the floor and a perfect 8 of 8 from the  free-throw line.  Atkins also contributed five rebounds, three assists, and five steals.

The Panthers, who now sport a 7-11 overall record, travel to Norfolk, Va. on Saturday to face Colonial Athletic Association foe Old Dominion.  Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m..
