Georgia State’s School of Law drops in law school rankings

Georgia State‘s School of Law ranked #64 in the 2015 rankings, ten spots lower than the school’s ranking for 2013 as 54, announced by U.S. News and World Report on Mar. 11.

Law students Kat Liu and Jacob Pruett said their primary reason for enrolling in Georgia State’s School of Law is its lower price than other top schools.

“Ranking isn’t the big factor in selecting a school,” Pruett said. “We are still well known among other expensive schools.”

Liu said “I only chose GSU’s Law school because I want to help people through my law degree, and it’s affordable.”

Steven j. Kaminshine, Dean and professor of Law, said Georgia
State Law’s 2013 placement rate at graduation was modestly lower than
in 2012 and its student-faculty ratio increased slightly which could be the factors of change in rank.

He also mentioned other factors that determine a school’s rank included median LSAT scores, undergraduate GPAs of students entering in fall 2013, selectivity, bar passage rates, student-faculty ratio, library resources, financial aid and faculty resources.

“The ranking tells us what we already know. Georgia State Law belongs among the top third of law schools in the United
States with top-ranked part-time and health law programs,” Kaminshine said.

Kaminshine said Georgia State Law will continue to focus on its strengths of educating practice-ready lawyers while remaining affordable and accessible.
