Students and fans crowd the field after Georgia State dropped $10,000 in cash.

The Georgia’s Own Credit Union $10,000 drop only dragged 9,535 fans to the Georgia State vs. New Hampshire game but it got large notoriety from many national media outlets.

The event was featured on Yahoo’s main online page, USA Today, The Sporting News and Sports Illustrated.

Approximately 250 fans gathered on the center of the Georgia Dome’s field to try to collect as many vouchers possible.

After the game, the fans had the chance to redeem the vouchers into cash at one of the two Georgia’s Own Credit Union branches, beginning Tuesday at 8 a.m., Georgia State Athletics’ website said.

In order to have a spot on the field, the participants had to attend to the Georgia State vs. Richmond game and take part of any companion ticket program, said Athletics.

This was the second time the university utilized this promotion technique to amass a larger fan base.

According to Allison George, last year, the cash drop helped by bringing more people to the stands on Georgia State’s game against Campbell.

Also, having last year’s cash drop as reference ensured the safety of all of the competitors for this occasion.

“Last season, we did it and everything went okay. We provided security on the field,” George said.

A release by Georgia State Communications the day after the New Hampshire game said the Cash Drop ended up being “as success” and, just like last year, “All (participants) walked away safely.”
