Georgia State begins centennial year with $500,000 gift from Helen Aderhold

Georgia State has received a $500,000 gift from avid community leader and higher education philanthropist Helen Aderhold.

Aderhold, a Georgia State alumna, donated the financial gift in memory of her late husband, John, to the John Aderhold Fund for Excellence, a fund that supports unrestricted scholarships for students, developed by a $500,000 gift by the University Financing Foundation in 2002.

“Such gifts as Mrs. Aderhold’s help make it possible for Georgia State to support students who otherwise may not have the opportunity to attend college and earn a degree,” said Georgia State President Mark P. Becker.

During the late 1990s, John Aderhold donated a $2.5 million gift to Georgia State, which funded the construction of the Helen M. Aderhold Learning Center on campus.

Helen Aderhold has been actively involved with Georgia State affairs in both the Georgia State Athletic Association and Alumni Association boards. She currently serves as Georgia State University board of trustee and a member of the Centennial Honorary committee.

“We are honored to celebrate the start of our centennial year with Mrs. Aderhold’s gift,” said Becker.
