Film Club brings quality production experience to Georgia State

Every Wednesday, a small group gathers to discuss the aesthetics and style behind film. This week was no different. Georgia State Film Club loves its visuals.

Having disbanded for several years, Film Club was officially revitalized only two years ago by Andrew Schwab, a film major.

“There’s a big need for improvement in terms of film production resources at Georgia State” Schwab said. “The classes we have really aren’t cutting it. I want Film Club to be a supplement to bring improved production to Georgia State.”

An aspiring film director in his own right, Schwab knows from personal experience how difficult it can be to gain experience in the business.

At the most recent meeting, the Film Club welcomed Hal Barber, a professional Partner and Creative Director of the advertising agency Drum Worldwide. Barber oversees video production and commercial treatments to advertise various companies. He explained the structure of an ad agency, as well as the steps behind the creation of advertising videos.

The Film Club also has upcoming hands-on projects, including a new commercial for the Gwinnett Children’s Shelter, showing that the club also enjoys giving back to the community.

Schwab said having Barber come in was just part of his plan to make film more understandable for students.

“I want film students to know that anyone can make a film if they know the basic skills behind it. Teamwork gets everyone going, and having different guests come in to help us learn is a great thing.”
