Victoria Davis, candidate for President of SGA, considered dropping out

Two days before the campaign season began, SGA presidential candidate Victoria Davis considered dropping out of the race.

Citing family emergencies, Davis told The Signal that she would withdraw from the campaign in an email on the morning of March 22.

I’m so sorry I haven’t been able to respond to you. Unfortunately, I’m having to drop out of the campaign, so you won’t be needing my interview,” Davis said when asked to do an interview with The Signal.

Approximately one hour later, Davis followed up and sent another email saying that she would continue to run for president.

Again, I’m sorry, but I’ve a few family emergencies this week. Luckily, they’ve just been sorted out as needed. As of now, I will be running for SGA President, and I will reply with your answers within the hour,” she said.

Darryl Holloman, advisor of the SGA, and Samantha Schikowski, election chair, said Davis did not tell them she was dropping out.

We were never notified that candidate Victoria Davis was dropping out. In fact, as of this morning we even received her campaign flyers. She will still be running for president,” Schikowski said.

When asked if further reasons for her consideration to drop out would be available, Davis did not comment. Matthew Altman, vice president on the same ticket, was not available for comment.

  1. Any information concerning actions or decisions made by candidates ought to be open for the public. Voters should know of everything their candidates are doing and saying in order to be fully informed. Many would consider the role of a student president a large and important one. If a candidate was at any point unsure of whether or not they have the ability to take on that role, voters should be aware.
