Students participate in free health fair on campus

“Love Your Body Day”, a free health fair for students and staff, took place on March 5.

The event was co-hosted by the office of Student Health Promotions and the Healthy State Committee and took place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Dahlberg Hall.

Lanie White, a peer health educator for Georgia State, said that a lot of students don’t have basic medical
coverage so this works as an opportunity for students to get important health
screenings, physicals and other medical services and information for free.

White also said this event was help to promote the overall general health for students.

A student that attended the event, Adrienne Schuchman, a junior and philosophy major, said that she came to the event because of the balloons and sign that she saw outside of Dahlberg.

“It’s really cool that [the organizations and offices] make [taking care of your body] an optimistic thing and they try to show you that your body is beautiful and they teach you
how to take care of it,” she said.

She also said that she was pleased to find out that Georgia State had a meditation room and relaxation room in the Counseling and Testing Center.

Organizations such as the American Heart Association, LA fitness, HIV testing clinics and Peachtree Orthopedic clinic had tables alongside those of Georgia State’s Office of Health and Promotion and the Counseling and Testing Center who gave information to students and prizes to students that came.

Therapists, a
masseur and other health instructors that provided services and shared information were also present at the fair. They provided massages, gave demonstrations and advice as well as answered questions about how to improve overall individual health.

The available services were covered by student fees.
