The Signal is hosting the SGA Debates in March

ATLANTA, GA, March 15, 2016 –– The Signal is hosting the 2016 Georgia State University Student Government Association (SGA) Debates on March 29-31 in the Urban Life Building Auditorium.

This will mark the second time The Signal has had the honor of partnering with SGA for this occasion. The Signal hosted the SGA debates 2014.

Kalisha-Lourdy Lazare, Vice Chair of Marketing for the 2016 Student Government Elections, is excited about the upcoming debates.

“This year’s debates will be great! We have a lot of candidates who are all equally excited to be the voice of the student body,” Lazare said.

The schedule for the debates is the following:

  • March 29th-presidential candidates
  • March 30th-executive vice president and speaker of the senate candidates
  • March 31st- senate candidates

Moderating the debates is The Signal’s News Editor Sean Keenan.

“We’ll be touching on all the hot-button issues: guns on campus, transparency with media, police conduct, racial disparity. It’s going to get hot,” said Keenan.

Press passes will be available for pick-up Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at 6 p.m. There is limited spacing for press. Please RSVP for all press passes here. The deadline for all press sign-up is Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at 5 p.m.

There will be pre-interviews at 6:30 p.m. for all of the candidates speaking on that day. These interviews will run for 25 minutes and then we will close them to the press. The doors open at seven in the evening. The debates will start at 7:30 and run until nine in the evening. All equipment used in the recording of this event by press is used at their discretion and The Signal nor SGA is responsible for any equipment lost or stolen at the SGA Debates.
