A new dean has been appointed to lead Georgia State’s College of Arts and Sciences.

The former dean of the College of Arts and Sciences is William J. Long, and in a message to Georgia State, he shared his goal to increase student opportunities to study and work in Atlanta.

On August 17, Sara Rosen, Vice Provost for academic affairs at University of Kansas, will be the new Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Rosen shared her goals for the coming year.

“Getting to know the people — faculty, staff, and students — the units, the culture, and the many areas of excellence in Arts and Sciences will be key for me to be able to lead the college into the future,” she said.

Rosen’s will be in charge of academic program quality, distribution of university resources and promotion of diversity.

At Georgia State, she said she aspires to develop programs and curriculum that will promote student success in the workforce.

“I look forward to being a part of a dynamic institution that is making dramatic advances in student success and in increased research activity. GSU is solving a major issue of access to education in the United States, and I am honored to have the chance to contribute to its mission,” Rosen said.

Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Risa Palm welcomes Rosen to the leadership team.

“I expect that the College of Arts and Sciences will continue to make great progress under her leadership,” Palm said.

Ayesha Iqbal, a Perimeter College architecture major at Dunwoody campus, looks forward to future upgrades to the college.

“It would be great to see more new technology incorporated into the courses available at the college [of Arts and Sciences],” Iqbal said.
