Men’s tennis tops Presbyterian to even record at 1-1

Georgia State men’s tennis found its way into the win column for the first time in 2015 as the Panthers defeated the Presbyterian Blue Hose by a final of 5-2.

Singles

The Georgia State victories included sophomore Jannis Koeke defeating Presbyterian’s Danny Bruce, 6-1, 6-1. Sophomore Zackery Kennedy also played a tough matchup as he faced off against the Blue Hose’ Ryan Miller, but Kennedy prevailed 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.

Freshman Sebastian Acuna also earned a victory for the Panthers as he beat Presbyterian’s Alexander Lykou in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4. Junior Joseph Bishop also notched a victory over the Blue Hose Brandon Mills, 7-5, 6-4.

Alejandro Bejar did earn a three-set win over Georgia State’s Valentin Horat. Bejar took the first set 6-4. Horat claimed the second set, 6-2, but the tiebreaking third set went to Bejar 1-0.

Diego Manzanas of Presbyterian also earned a 6-4, 6-3 win over the Panthers’ Sofiane Chevallier.

Doubles

Two of the three doubles matches also went in the Panthers’ direction. Kennedy and Chevallier teamed up to top Miller and Ryan Roberts of Presbyterian by a final of 6-2. The combined rackets of Koeke and Acuna earned a 6-3 victory over the Blue Hose’ Lykou and Lucas Luckemeier.

Mills and Brewer were one better than Georgia State’s Bishop and Horvat as they won in their doubles match, 5-4.

The Panthers will return to the hardcourt next tonight at the Atlanta Athletic Club when they face Troy at 6 p.m.
