Men’s soccer keeps home streak alive

Georgia State men’s soccer has now recorded back-to-back home wins, the latest being a 1-0 win against Presbyterian. A lone goal from Cory Plasker was enough to see the Panthers secure the win, in what was a balanced game with both sides creating chances.

Both goalkeepers were called into action within the first 21 minutes, with Georgia State goalkeeper C.J. Cochran making a fine save in the fourth minute and Panthers forward Jad Elkhalil testing the Presbyterian keeper, who made the save.

After a run of good pressure from the Panthers, it was a mistake from Presbyterian keeper Johnny Archer that gave the Panthers the lead. Archer made a bad throw that fell to the feet of Georgia State midfielder Cory Plasker, who made no mistake and fired a low shot into the net.

The first half ended with the Panthers up 1-0, having enjoyed a slight nine to six advantage in shots and having taken one more corner kick than Presbyterian.

The Panthers kept up the intensity at the start of the second half, with midfielder Amiri Abraham’s curling effort deflecting off the top of the crossbar and defender Conor Acheson’s diving header deflected by a finger-tip save from the Presbyterian goalkeeper.

Late saves from Cochran capped an all-around impressive performance from the goalkeeper, who picked up his first shutout of the season. The Panthers’ next game is on the road at UNCG, on Sept. 20th.
