Georgia State hosting international conference on aggression

Georgia State will host the 21st World Meeting of the International Society for Research on Aggression at the Loews Atlanta Hotel on July 15, according to a university press release.

Dr. Dominic Parrot, associate professor and Director of Clinical Training at the Department of Psychology, is one of the event organizers. The event will recognize Georgia State’s research work in aggression, according to Parrot.

“Georgia State’s sponsorship of the 2014 World Meeting reinforces to an international community (over 80 of the attendees are traveling from international locations) that it is a center of excellence in violence research,” he said.

The university will have the highest representation of any institution at the meeting, according to Parrot.

“We have faculty and students across multiple departments and colleges who do renowned work on aggression, and over 20 of them will be in attendance at the World Meeting,” Parrot said.

The conference will end on July 19 and will feature nearly 170 presentations exploring topics of aggression. This includes media violence and the neural underpinnings of aggression, according to Parrot.

About 230 people have registered for the event, according to Parrot. This also includes 100 students.
