Georgia State honors work in the community at Special Recognition Ceremony

Georgia State honored faculty, staff and students who have done outstanding work with their communities at the Special Recognition Ceremony on Tuesday afternoon.

The university honored faculty who have 5 through 35 years of service with the university, though those with 25 years or more went upstage to receive a gift bag and photo with President Mark Becker.

At the ceremony, the Carl V. Patton Awards for Community Service and Social Justice were awarded to:

  • Student: Carmen Williams for Outstanding Community Service.
  • Organization: Panther Breakaway for Outstanding Community Impact
  • Staff: Matthew Robison for Outstanding Staff Member
  • Program: Healthy Grandparents for Outstanding University Programs
  • Partner: Safehouse Outreach for Outstanding Community Partnership

The George M. Sparks Awards, which have been awarded for 28 years in honor of former Georgia State President George M. Sparks, were also awarded to three members of the Georgia State community:

  • Scott Levin, staff.
  • Michael Black, faculty.
  • Larry Youngs, faculty.
