Fall Sports Predictions, Part 2

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

The Panthers open their season by taking part in the preseason WNIT. It would be Georgia State’s first time in school history ever competing in a preseason tournament. Ten of the teams competing have earned a NCAA bid last season including national championship runner-up Louisville.

Georgia State should have continuity to their advantage despite losing three seniors last season  in Tiffany Anderson, Kyra Crosby and Cody Paulk since eight letters winners return.

Highly touted redshirt junior Alisha Andrews will finally join the Panthers on the court this season. In addition to Andrews, Georgia State will have a trio of six footers joining the team in the fall: Haley Gerrin (6’2″), Ashanti Groover (6’2″) and Jamila Mayfield (6’4″).

MEN’S SOCCER

Georgia State, now competing as an independent, faces a wealth of competition such as North Carolina and Kentucky. A 6-13 record would be reasonable for the Panthers if they were able to notch up some wins against lesser competition like UNC Greensboro.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Unlike the men’s soccer team, the women’s team have the luxury of facing Sun Belt conference foes Jacksonville State, Louisiana-Lafayette and Lousiana-Monroe this season. This year should be a great year to play among the best in the FBS and see how they stack up against them. 2-14 would be a logical guess on how they’d fare with more competitive 2013-2014 season schedule.

VOLLEYBALL

The volleyball team is another program that will be affected by the move to face greater competition. The team struggled last season in the FCS as a member of the CAA conference. With move to the Sun Belt, they will not only face tough competition during the tournaments but also during the conference portion of the schedule that takes place this year. 7-26 would be a good start compared to last year’s 4-20 record.
