Residents push for Invest Atlanta to extend a road

Invest Atlanta will vote to allocate $700,000 towards building a 300-yard extension of a road in northwest Atlanta on May 28, according to Creative Loafing. The road is necessary for the redevelopment of the Moore’s Mill Shopping Center, which is an abandoned strip mall, into a mixed residential use. The community supports the project in hopes that it will revitalize the area, according to Creative Loathing.

Passengers injured in Amtrak derailment in Philadelphia

An Amtrak train en route to New York City from Washington D.C. derailed in Philadelphia on May 12, according to CIRCA News. Out of the 238 passengers, six were killed and 140 were injured. The Federal Railroad Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause as it is still unknown.

North Korea executes their defense minister

North Korean Defense Minister Hyon Yong Chol was publically executed at a military school by an anti-aircraft gun, according to CNN.  He was accused of treason for expressing discontent towards the country’s leader and reportedly dozing off at a meeting orchestrated by Kim Jong Un. The details to Hyon’s exact time of death remain unclear. Hyon is one of many high-ranking officials to be executed since Kim Jong Un’s reign, according to CNN.
