Background: Va Mag is an online weekly publication based in Atlanta, that focuses on art, music, fashion and lifestyle. Va Mag was established five years ago by two art lovers. Since its inception the magazine has employed over 40 college students and covered many art events in the Atlanta area like Music Midtown and Simon Fashion Now. We also host our very own art shows. Duties: Va Mag interns are responsible for writing one feature story weekly on
deadline for the online magazine. Interns are expected to cover an event on location every other month ex: Fashion Show, Art Exhibit etc.

The writers are also required to share their published stories via social media. This gives exposure to the writers and the publication. It also presents the writers with a chance to build an online presence, develop a portfolio and to gain hands-on experience writing, reporting and utilizing different social media channels to gain a following and spread awareness. The writers’ stories are published weekly at

Va Mag interns work remotely and can set their own schedules just as long as they meet their weekly deadlines, NO EXCEPTIONS. We are looking for ambitious, punctual individuals, who are not afraid to go against the grain, and would like to strengthen their writing and reporting skills.

*Some knowledge of writing and reporting is a plus, but we are willing to train.

Va Mag writers have to be responsive and accessible via email and by phone since we work remotely a majority of the time. We require for all our interns to participate in a 4-week trial period before an offer for employment is extended. Once they have successfully completed the term interns are required to sign an agreement to stay on staff for a minimum of six months. The Va Mag internship opportunity is not a paid assignment. However we do compensate our writers by providing them with tickets to events and exclusive access to artists that they wouldn’t have otherwise. Several artists like Kehinde Wiley, Ferrari Sheppard, Coulter Prehm and Model Alek Wek have recognized Va Mag for feature stories that we have published about them and their work.

We also serve as a reference for employment opportunities and we work with college professors to count the opportunity for course credit. Va Mag is the perfect place to get your feet wet by learning different writing styles; and working for a well-known edgy, contemporary publication that doesn’t follow trends, but we set our very own.

To Apply: Send an email to, include “Applicant for Va Mag Internship” in the subject line. Attach any writing samples, include links to your social media profiles and tell us why you are interested in being considered for the Va Mag Internship program.
