Atlantans dance to end violence against women

As Atlantans and Georgia State students go to lunch at noon, they can expect to see plenty of dancing in Woodruff Park.

A flash mob, organized by 1 Billion Rising, is set to perform in an attempt to end violence against women.

The group will dance to 1 Billion Rising’s anthem “Break the Chain” written by acclaimed songwriter Tena Clark, an Atlanta native. The dance will be choreographed by Debbie Allen.

Started 14 years ago, 1 Billion Rising is an activist group that organizes flash mobs to end violence against women and does so only through protest and dance.

At 10 a.m., the group will gather at the steps of the Georgia Capitol to call for increased awareness and prevention efforts. From there they will move to the park to begin the dance at noon.
